Character Name: Ezekiel “Zeke” Castigos
Species: Devil’s Child
Age: 20
Physical Appearance: Zeke is pale, with black hair and gray eyes, like a picture done in grayscale. He dresses neatly, but not formally – clean jeans and button-up shirts worn untucked with rolled sleeves, cashmere sweaters and khakis, tailored jackets, and the occasional tie. His clothes are meant to convey competence and they usually do that quite well. He’s about 5’10” with a frame the light side of medium, straight in the shoulders, with a tilt to his jaw that gives the impression of confidence and control without quite being haughty about it. He’s gorgeous – arresting eyes, a full mouth, straight nose and fine bone structure – but his air of cool authority often distracts people from flirting with him.

Personality Description: Intelligent, observant, keenly deductive and always focused on the big picture, Zeke is that annoying person who always puts the clues together before everyone else, then claims the solution was obvious. He’s quiet, practical, and soft-spoken, a bit dry in his humor, and very straightforward about the supernatural. A student and a scholar, he spends most of his down time wrapped up in a good book, and unless he’s trying to lay low, he uses his powers reflexively and matter-of-factly. Anyone who freaks out about it is told scathingly to get a grip – after all, there are much more important things to worry about. All in all, Zeke is quite tolerable, but those who would mess with him should be warned – a pitiless and ambitious young man lurks beneath the pragmatic and even-keeled exterior, and it’s inadvisable to underestimate him. Zeke tends to be goal-oriented and has little patience for anyone getting in his way.

Powers: Zeke is a Witch, so he wields magic, and all that entails. As a Devil’s Child, he also has innate powers of shadow and darkness – the ability to control shadows, to snuff lights, and to take a shadow form in which he is only semi-substantial (rendering him very difficult to hurt and allowing him to slip through the tiniest cracks), is weightless, and can fly. His familiar is a brawny black wolf with faintly glowing red eyes named Rast.

Universe of Origin: Original, based on European Horror Myths
History: Zeke was raised in a Charspire orphanage, far from his mother, and has never met her or discovered her true identity. When it became obvious that there was magic in his blood, he was ‘adopted’ by a coven, a common practice in Charspire, where leaving talent untaught was considered a grievous waste. A natural student, he learned quickly and easily and soon earned the attention of more and more learned teachers. He pursued arts related to, but not necessarily inherent in the study of magic – astronomy, mathematics, physics, history – and with all the time he spent at Charspire’s library, eventually he found a door in the basement he’d never seen before and opened it.

Domain Description: Zeke has spent so much time in the library that it’s like a second home to him, so he’s very familiar with his surroundings. He could have picked worse prisons than one full of books anyway. He lives in the Scholars’ Quarters on the top floor, which are richly appointed and comfortably lush. The library is a massive, square building built of stone, with narrow floor-to-ceiling windows of warped glass and towering bookshelves crammed with tomes of ancient knowledge. Globe lamps mounted on the bookshelves give some light that doesn’t reach up into the rafters, and clusters of comfortable, old-fashioned furniture are grouped under larger light globes suspended from the ceiling. A gleaming circulation desk, oval-shaped with the hold shelves in the center, stands near the doors, but Zeke has no use for it, and wrought-iron steps lead up to the next two stories. These are just balconies, with more bookshelves against the walls, leaving the center atrium open. The rear of the building holds offices, private study rooms, and the scholar’s quarters. The basement holds the archives which are not available to the general public, books of such age and great worth that they require extra protection. Unfortunately, the books Zeke hasn’t read yet (or at least flipped through) are nothing but gibberish, which has caused much self-recrimination and frustration on his part.
